This news item will serve as a warning to the Filipino Nurse who wishes to work in Denmark as nurses.
Three Filipino nurses were recruited by Scandinavian Nursing Agency who lured them to study and find a job as nurses here in Denmark but after six months after heir arrival they are still jobless and did not get any internships at all which leaves them with a big deep back home.
The victims were Flordeliza Gimarino (38 years old), Bryan Lles ( 27 years old) and Leonora Ligeralde (34 years old). The Danish Nurses council in Middle Jylland is trying to help the three Filipino nurses.
The agency is owned by a Thai resident nurse and a senior consultant from Middle Jutland that has served as a consultant to the bureau.
It is the first case that happens in Denmark but several of the regions reponsible for recruitment is not surprised that foreign victims becomes victims of unethical recruiters.
We have already been approached by very rogue agencies. Individuals who would like to do a good deed and make money, “says Rikke Kragh Iversen, who is Officer in Region Zealand.
President of Danish Regions Health, Ulla Astman (S), tells the nurse that she was recently contacted by a company that would acquire Eastern nurses in the country. They would live five to a room and have a 1000 kr per month internship period.
“The case of the three Filipino nurses are horrible. Regions can not prevent private companies from acting unethically, but we can make clear what is required to enter into an agreement to provide nurses and doctors in Denmark. And in this way can we deter brådne vats in the industry, “says Ulla Astman. The regions are currently translate a set of ethical guidelines, which include to protect foreign nurses from exploitation.
Danish Nurses circle Middle Jutland now trying to help the three nurses.
“We have listened to the dire situation, the three nurses have ended up in, and we will contact our network of senior nurses to explore opportunities for the Filipino nurses can be employed in an internship. We hope our network can help them gain a foothold in Denmark as nurses, “says group Vice circleMiddle Jutland Gert Petersen.

Tre filippinske sygeplejersker er havnet i bundløs gæld, fordi de blev lokket til Danmark af et lille midtjysk rekrutteringsfirma. Seks måneder efter ankomsten har de stadig ikke praktik eller job. Nu forsøger Dansk Sygeplejeråd Kreds Midtjylland at hjælpe.
In the middle of February this year there were 200 nurses from the Philippines are ready to go to Denmark, but because of the strict regulation of the National Heath Service they are prevented to get working permit in nurse-lacking Denmark. Because the nurses are applicants from a non-EU country they are faced with much harsher requirements than workers with an EU-citizenship according to the Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende. This means that every single non-European applicant to a job in Denmark faces an individual and time-consuming settlement for their working permit. So far the Danish authorities have hesitated to approve the 200 Philippines.
“The nurses have received four years of training and are just as qualified as Danish nurses” says Birger Tordrup, who is president of Health Care Denmark, the bureau who provided the recruitment of the Philippine nurses.
The health department of the Danish Regions also disagrees with the behaviour of the National Health Service, because of the massive lack of nurses in Denmark.
”We need more nurses and have to ease the bureaucracy that stops us of getting them. USA and Australia has recruited a large number of Philippine nurses with great success” states Bent Hansen from the Danish Regions. (source: www.Scandasia.com)
Denmark need 2,423 nurses according to the report of the Danish Nurses Organization last May this year but Filipino nurses should watch out because of different rules being non EU citizen.
