Today is Babaylan Denmark’s 14th Yr. Birthday

Babaylan Denmark is celebrating it’s 14th Anniversary today and we are proud to say we are the most active Filipina women organization in Denmark and the rest of Europe. This is in spite of lack of Financial support from the government, we are still able to conduct our activities from Aupair Information Meetings to  capacity Building to Cross Cultural Events all over Denmark. We are always asked this question” How can you do that?”. This is possible when you have dedicated  board of officers, support from our regular sponsors and our volunteers which consists of doctors, lawyer  and au pairs who believed in our cause.

We are often faced by several challenges along the way but that doesn’t stop us. There are 9,300 Filipino migrants in Denmark which 80 % are women so a Filipina Organisation like Babaylan is relevant in reaching out to our fellow Filipinas.  And with rising numbers of Filipina au pairs coming to Denmark every year, we are very visible when it comes to Aupair Orientations, counselling, assisting aupairs who are having problems with their host or victims of  sexual abuse, visit seriously sick au pairs in the hospital and even  conducting fundraising campaign to au pairs who met their death while they are in Denmark.

The creation of Babaylan-Denmark/Odense is  one of our achievement this year and we hope to reach to other parts of the country.  We are doing all of this not because of power or financial gain but we are connected by our passion to pursue our  mission fueled by the Babaylan spirit, we wanted to empower women as what was the Babaylan before the Spanish time, where they were one of the pillar of the community. We don’t gain anything and but all the hardship is worth it when we meet one of the women we somehow helped along the way saying “Thank you Babaylan I’m okey now and I’m able to say NO and know what to do and share my knowledge and experience to other women”

It’s Babaylan Denmark’s tradition to celebrate our Anniversary with rest of the Filipino Community  in terms of Forum or Pista sa Mayo with the “Flores de Mayo “or Santacruzan which we will be having this coming 28th of May at St. Anne’s Church Main Hall at Dronning Elizabeth 2, 2300 Kbh. S.  Please see the invitation here.

Thank you for all the greetings we received thru Facebook. We will post this message from 3rd Secretary & Vice Consul LENNA EILLEEN C. DE DIOS-SISON of the Philippine Embassy in Oslo. This message was published in our Spring Edition of ABAKADA, the Babaylan Denmark’s Official Magazine.

Congratulations to Babaylan Denmark for celebrating 14 years of women empowerment and advancing the cause of Filipina women in Denmark and throughout Europe.
Indeed, 14 years is no mean feat for any organization and the Philippine Embassy is happy to celebrate this auspicious occasion with you. May you continue to champion the rights of our womenfolk in Denmark and Europe and serve as a pillar of strength to Filipino women and men alike.  May you also continue to be a blessing and guiding light to our au pairs there in Denmark and a steady partner of the Philippine Embassy as we work together towards the welfare of our fellowmen and our beloved Philippines.
As spring unfolds and the lovely flowers of May come into bloom, so may Babaylan continue to bloom and celebrate the innate beauty and strength of the Filipina and her culture that blossoms in faith and thrives in community of spirit.
