PaskOdense – Paskong Pinoy sa Odense

PaskOdense, Paskong Pinoy sa Odense – A huge success!

Paskong Pinoy sa Odense

Non-stop disco for everyone

November 06, 2010 – It might sound too early for a Christmas Party, but it’s the spirit that counts!

Babaylan-Denmark has recently been working hand and hand with its Babaylan sisters and friends who had helped and has been a part of its reach out program, the Au Pair Orientations, which were conducted for all Filipino Au Pairs in different key cities in Jylland and Midt Jylland in 2009.

This year, Babaylan is not only reaching out for the Au Pairs but for also to all Filipino migrant women.   Through  our good and reliable network,  organizing and coordinating of events and activities goes easier and more interesting.

The 1½ month speedy planning and preparation for a not- so-big Christmas Party for the Pinoys in Odense were taken by Luzie Seno Hansen whom I met during an Au Pair Orientation in Bryrup, in Eastern Jutland last October 2009. She used all her resources in making PaskOdense- Paskong Pinoy sa Odense, a memorable event for everyone.

The night of the event was freezing cold and the venue is way out of town.  There were only 70 people who confirmed to come. The place is cozy and with Christmas decorations all around. Babaylan team from Copenhagen came early on. Judy Jover, Hilda Gudmundsson , Babaylan Treasurer, Sylvia Jensen, Babaylan member from Sorø, Josie Christensen, Babaylan member and supporter and Babaylan former Chairperson Luz Hammer,  were soon put to their designated tasks in preparation for a surprise number for the evening’s entertainment.

We were all impressed with our Kababayan in Odense. At the dot of 5 o’clock, the hall was almost full, by 6 o’clock, there’s no more place available, and at 7 o’clock, it’s standing room only! There must have been around 200 guests who came that night. The venue was too small to accommodate them all. But that did not spoil the party! There was plenty of food and there were people who brought some desserts too!

Games and entertainments were well participated. Thanks to Western Union who sponsored the venue, food, giveaways, consolation prizes and the major prizes which was the latest version of iPod Nano. A gift certificate with a week of hotel accommodation for 2 at Coco Beach Resort in Puerto Galera, Mindoro  was  given by C&C Travel. Exchanging of gifts were well organized so everyone went home with an early Christmas present.  And who needs to sit anyway when disco music was played non-stop? Everyone shake and grooved with the rhythm. Special dance numbers from talented Hip-Hop and Pop dancers were well applauded. The cultural show showcasing the different Filipino traditional costumes with models picked from crowd were wowed by everyone.  The peek of this fashion show brought everyone home.  The pride of being a Filipino in a foreign country and at the same time watching with admiration as the models elegantly paraded  the Baro’t Saya, Kimona, Maria Clara, etc. Who wouldn’t be proud to be a Filipino on that night?

It was almost 3 in the morning when the party was over.  All tired but were happy.  We were overwhelmed with positive comments, warm handshakes, big hugs, appreciations, endless thank you, wide smiles and unspoken respect for the effort and thought of the wonderful Christmas party they have had, according to them, it’s the first time ever in Odense for the Filipino Community.

It is our hope that this is just the beginning of a good cooperation for any future projects and events we have in store for the coming years to all our Kababayan in Odense and all its neighboring towns and cities. We hope to see them all again soon!

Meanwhile,  Paskonderborg – paskong Pinoy in Skanderborg  is slated on the 27th of November.  We are looking forward to another big event surrounded with our Kababayan up there in Midt Jylland!
