Mass and Funeral Service for Geraldine

We are deeply saddened by the sudden death of a Filipina aupair who was killed in a fatal road accident last Saturday 9th of April 2011. Her remains will be brought to St. Anne church in Amager on Saturday 17th of April at 2:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to come and pay their last respect and pray for eternal repose of her soul. In connection with this we are re posting the letter from the Philippine Embassy in Oslo to the Filipino community asking for Assistance for the family of Geraldine.

Dear Friends in Denmark,

The Philippine Embassy supports the Filipino Leader’s meeting called by Ms. Judy and Pastor Raymond for the welfare of our deceased kababayan, Ms. Geraldine Rivera and appeals to all Filipino Leaders and/or their representatives to attend.

The meeting, scheduled on Sunday, 17 April 2011 at the Ll. Sal. of Skt. Anne’s Church from 6:30-7:30PM is aimed at determining how the community can pool together funds for Ms. Rivera’s family.

As you know, Ms. Rivera met with an unfortunate motor accident last Saturday (09 April) cutting her life short and leaving behind a family without a bread winner. She leaves behind her sickly 85-year old grandfather who has stood as her sole parent since she never knew her father while her mother died while she was still young. She also leaves behind a 15-year old half-brother. Ms. Rivera comes from a humble background in the province of Alaminos, Pangasinan. Just like many of our other kababayan, she came to Denmark as an au pair in the hopes of helping her family rise out of poverty which is why her tragic death becomes all the more poignant.

This Lenten Season, I hope that you can find it in your hearts to make this little sacrifice for our less fortunate brethren.

Meanwhile, I also wish to inform you that Hon. Con.Gen. Krogh is on top of the repatriation of Ms. Geraldine’s remains and has been so kind as to guarantee the latter while still pursuing the insurance of those who ran her over. Atty. Wesley Valdez has agreed to take on the case and assist both the Honorary Consulate General and the Philippine Embassy in this important pursuit. Mr. Krogh has also been in touch with a Funeral Parlor that is currently taking care of Ms. Rivera’s remains. The Embassy has been in touch with the Funeral Parlor and is awaiting the needed documents from the latter in order for us to authenticate the former and issue the needed certification to facilitate Ms. Rivera’s repatriation to her family in the Philippines.

On behalf of the Philippine Embassy, I would like to thank all of you for your continued cooperation and assistance to our fellow Filipinos in distress there in Denmark. I also wish to reiterate my previous expression of gratitude to all those who have emailed and called expressing concern over the welfare of Ms. Rivera and offering much needed assistance. Indeed, together we can accomplish much for our fellowmen.

May I also take this opportunity to wish you all a Blessed Holy Week and an advance greeting for a Happy Easter!
