PDOT London Offers Free Shuttle Service to VIPs during the Royal Wedding

To celebrate the Royal Wedding, the Philippines Department of Tourism London ran a free shuttle service using the Philippine Taxis for VIP guests departing from Buckingham Palace in the afternoon. As soon as roads to opened up, the iconic London Taxis carrying the Philippines superside adverts rushed to pick-up guests to their chosen destination.

As one of the biggest events of the century, the Royal Wedding was watched by an estimated 2 billion people. It was excellent venue to promote the Philippines profile to a global audience.

Initiated in 2005, by Assistant Secretary Chicoy Enerio, the Philippine Taxis in London has been one of the most successful institutional projects of PDOT London. The strong visual presence of the 50 iconic taxis continues to be a highly effective medium to boost awareness of the Philippines tourism and generate demand for holiday packages to the country.

Familiarization Tours to the Philippines Organized between April – May 2010

PDOT London continues to organize and implement familiarization trips to raise the profile of the Philippines as world-class destination. Just between April to May, we are proud to report a number of very exciting inspection visits, happening between April – May, by high-profile journalists, writers, TV studios, tour operators and photographers that PDOT London is assisting with:

2-6 April – Carlos Morales a well known Spanish blogger visited the country to cover the various attractions of Bohol and Cebu.

12-18 April – Tom Parker-Bowles went to the Philippines with photographer Chris Floyd to write about the Filipino cuisine for Esquire Magazine. Esquire Magazine is one of the oldest (started in 1933) and most prominent style magazine for the A+ market with a circulation of 700,000 in the UK translating to a 2.1million readership. During his trip he was able to visit various restaurants in Manila, interview few well-known chefs including Claude Tayag, Ivan Lee, Glenda Barretto and Margarita Fores to name a few. He was able to sample a broad range from high-end cuisine to indigenous foods including balut and sisig.

25 April – 7 May – Dive Seafari – PDOT hosted the first ever Dive Seafari, aimed at showcasing the impressive collection of marco attractions that the Philippines has to offer. Dive operators and photographers the world over are attended the event. PDOT London invited top dive operators from the UK and Italy namely Regal Dive, Scuba Travel, Ultimate Diving, H2O Viaggi and S.D.C. La Spezia Dive Club.

27 April – 10 May – Travel Channel is currently shooting the Philippines episode for their Woman’s World Series. They are interviewing successful Filipina women in entertainment, government and domestic sectors. They would also be covering various hotels including H2O in Manila, activities such as helmet diving in Cebu and natural attractions like the Chocolate Hills in Bohol.

3-11 May – Hernan Patiño an accredited photojournalist from Finland specializes travel reportage and scuba diving. He will be writing a piece for Mondo Travel Magazine on Manila, Legaspi and Donsol. The leading travel magazine in Finland has a wide circulation reaching active and independent travellers. In addition, Hernan is also a contributor to other several magazines in Finland and even in Finnair’s in-flight magazine called Bluewings.

20-25 May – The PATA Sweden group comprised of 12 directors and travel executives of well-known tour operators in Sweden will soon be going to Manila and El Nido. These companies will be looking to either initiate their Philippines program or expand existing offerings to the country. This FAM would be an excellent opportunity for the country to broaden the prospect of capturing a good share of the Swedish market.

30 May – 1 June Globetrekker, the award-winning TV travel series will be filming for their upcoming series on World War II. They will be historical sites inlcuding Corregidor and the Kamikaze Museum in Manila among others.
