2014 OPEN PROGRAM with BABAYLAN-DENMARK

1. Event Title: AU PAIRS: DAUGHTERS of GLOBALISATION

BABAYLAN, the Philippine Women’s Network in Denmark is tackling this apparently controversial topic on Au Pairs in Norden -as can be gleamed from media debate- with a Workshop entitled: Living with the AU PAIR Scheme in NordenVenue: SALIMI, MALMÖ ARENA Hyllie Stationstorg 2, 215 32 Malmö, SverigeTime: Sunday, 15 June, from 11:00 – 12:30

2. Norway: Elisabeth Stubberud, PhD Fellow , the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology 3. Sweden: Erliza Pedersen, PhD Fellow, Department of Arts and Communication, Malmö University

The Workshop will present a Status in 3 countries, problematize and synthesize solutions and present best practices if any regarding the Au Pair Scheme as it functions in the Nordic welfare states today. Workshop results to be presented in Open Plenary. Formulation of Statement. We will document the event afterwards with a Proceedings report.WELCOME to One and All: to MEDIA so they can write more nuanced on Au Pairs in the future, to Host Families & All other ACTORS so together we can all learn more and have a JUST and FAIR AU PAIR System in Norden.

2. Event Title: MEDIA EXHIBITION: SEEING the WORLD WITH BROWN EYES

Venue: Malmömässan (Malmo Congress Ctr) Mässgatan 6, 215 32 Malmö, Sweden June 11-15

This is a POSTER EXHIBITION mirroring the World of ethnic minority women in Denmark through decades of living at the edges of society: often excluded, voiceless and misunderstood. All these are mirrored in the pages of Independent Magazines which the women themselves established and ran on 100% Volunteer resources. For reasons of Space, only a select number are included in this Exhibition. We thank the libraries at KVINFO, the Royal Library and Copenhagen Municipality, Krystalgade and Babaylan archives for generosity in lending materials

3. Event Title: CULTURAL INTERVENTION: FILIPINO FOLK DANCE and FASHION

Venue: VIGDIS, Malmömässan (Malmo Congress centerMässgatan 6, 215 32 Malmö, SwedenTime: from 9:00 am, Sunday, 15 June

We proudly present Philippine culture through TINIKLING the beloved National Folk Dance which depicts the white heron’s struggle to find rice, the staple food in Asia. The bamboo poles are the rice stalks and the dance on the poles, the movement of the bird, at times hectic, from stalk to stalk. DARE to DO this DANCE with your Filipina hosts who will guide you gently.Philippine indigenous fibres in this case: banana/abaca silk, are in focus in this display of contemporary designs by Presidential awardee, DITA SANDICO. The WRAP is a very versatile piece of clothing for every occasion. We in Babaylan think “Every woman should have one!”
